About Toto
Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also acclaimed studio players working with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The group took their name from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every musical style.
The third album from Toto, Turn Back, was an unfulfilling success in 1981. However they came back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hits, including the title song and Roseanna. The album and their tour helped them become a household name across the globe.
After a brief hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It marks a step away from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This album was their first album to go platinum in North America.
During the recording of the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is financially in trouble. They decide to change their name and make a new album using an entirely new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, is now replacing Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and provides the band with a much-needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a major tour across the globe. After several weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and goes on to record their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa during the recent tour. Toto's touring band includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest along with keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

The band continued to push forward with their fifth album, Isolation. The album had a host of songs, including "Stranger in Town".
After Isolation Toto was put on a break. The break gave each member of the group the chance to pursue their individual projects. In 1996, the group was reformed to tour and make an album. It was the first time in more than a decade that all of the original band members were on stage.
The following year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the last time all of Toto's original members appeared on stage at once. Following this, the band disbanded once again. Toto came back together for an event benefiting the ALS Foundation in 2010. to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in 31 years that all of Toto's original members performed together. In addition to the original members, keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
