Evolution Korea
In the past the Korean scientific community avoided engaging with the creationists out of fear of giving the movement more credibility. The silence is no longer a viable option.
The STR has been fighting to get rid of textbooks that discuss evolution, including the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an early bird's ancestor. This is only one example of how the development paradigm has evolved.

What is Evolution?
The theory of evolution is a scientific one that explains the evolution of genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based on fact that living things adapt to their environment which can result in changes in genes, or even entire genomes. Over time these changes could result in the emergence of new species. The prevailing theory of evolution is known as natural selection, which describes the process by which people with advantages survive and reproduce more frequently than those with disadvantages. As time passes, this difference in reproduction can lead to the emergence of completely new species.
The term "evolution", which comes from the Latin for revealing or unrolling has been used in many different ways as the concept has changed in both science and elsewhere. Early evolutionists, such as Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather) believed that the existing species changed into other species in a certain way. Etienne Geoffroy St.Hilaire was Lamarck's embryologist pupil who invented the term "transmutation" to describe this view. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, attacked the idea of evolution and borrowed the term from Geoffroy’s student.
Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process by which living organisms develop traits that increase their chances of survival or conceiving offspring. Over time the genetic variability could lead to the emergence of entirely new physical or biological functions in a population. Natural selection is the main force behind the most evolutionary changes. Changes that are not genetic, like an increase in muscle mass from exercise or diet, cannot be considered to be evolution since they don't pass on to the next generation.
Despite the fact that evolution has stood the test of time and a multitude of scientific studies Creationists have taken advantage of the idea that evolution is controversial to argue that it shouldn't be taught in school. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories over evolution in high school textbooks. This includes the removal of all references about the evolutionary history of humans as well as Archaeopteryx - a feathered dinosaur that is believed to be the ancestral bird's first ancestor.

Why is Evolution Important?
Evolution explains the origins and evolution of Earth and all living species. It is also one of the pillars of biology and helps scientists discover how living things operate and develop. Evolution also shows how various species are interconnected. Scientists study evolution to gain a better understanding of the natural world and also to make important discoveries like the development of new treatments.
The evidence for evolution of biological species is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that explains so much about the universe and life on this planet and has been rigorously tested and verified over many years. Many people, including religious leaders, are in favor of the theory of evolution as a scientific fact. It is important to understand that evolutionary biology does not interfere with religions, since the theory deals only with things, events and processes within the physical world.
In reality, many religious people have found ways to reconcile their beliefs with the theory of evolution. For example certain Christians believe that God created the world through evolution, and that humans share an ancestry with other animals.
It is important that science educators advocate for the teaching evolution. In some countries around the world there is a growing anti-evolutionist sentiment. In the United States, efforts to limit the teaching of evolution have made progress in a few states. In South Korea, a group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) which is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research is urging the removal of textbook content about the evolution of horses as well as the bird ancestor Archaeopteryx.
Although these are alarming developments, it is also important to keep in mind that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution is based on a variety of sources, such as fossils, genetics, and the behavior of living creatures. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists.
The majority of scientists agree with the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this belief vary. Certain scientists study evolution in order to make practical discoveries, such as developing new drugs or [에볼루션 슬롯게임](https://evolutionkr.kr/) enhancing existing ones. Others do this to improve the lives of animals and plant species, usually for the benefit of humans. Some scientists are just curious, whereas others have an intense belief in God.

What is Creationism?
Creationists are people who believe that God created the universe and everything within it. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken as such. While not all creationists are Christian however, they are a majority. Creationists are usually divided into two categories: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.
The YECs are the best known form of creationist, and they believe that God created the universe exactly as described in the Bible. YECs hold that the biblical account of six days of creation was literal and that the universe as well as life on Earth were created only recently.
OECs may be less popular However, their beliefs are as fierce as the YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old and they believe that evolution is an untruth.
Both types of creationism reject the notion that scientific theories such as natural selection and abiogenesis are able to explain the origin of life on Earth. They claim that evolution is inconceivable because it requires miracles. The founders of modern scientific thought shunned miracles because they feared they could lose their credibility.
Some creationists believe in both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and refer to their belief "theistic evolution." This is sometimes also known as "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the original species." The theory suggests that God creates original species and then allows them to evolve over time. These evolutionary changes will eventually produce new species similar to the original.
Others believe that God created the universe and all living things during a single event, referred to as the Great Flood. They believe that all the original species were created at the same time and then gradually evolved. They also deny the notion of abiogenesis and claim that the self-replicating creation of organisms from nonliving matter is not possible.
In general, the creationists are against teaching of evolution in schools. Numerous professional organizations such as the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education support this position, as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Some academic institutions and scientists are however more flexible and allow both evolution and creationism to be included in their curriculum.

What is Creationism?
When people think of creationism most often, they think of the United States. However, South Korea is also home to an anti-evolution movement. The publishers of high school textbooks announced recently that they will remove the mention of evolution in their editions. A group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR), an independent body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research and has been the driving force behind the move. STR has achieved its first victory by removing instances of the evolution of the horse and an avian ancestor, the Archeopteryx in textbooks. The next goal is to take out portions of Darwin's notorious finch-research as well as on human evolution.
STR claims to have the support of 4,000 families and individual members. Its aim is to root out what it sees as the "atheist materialism" that creates a bleak worldview for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American creationists who live in the US. A survey of trainee biology teachers revealed that a majority do not believe in evolution. The reasons for this are not clear, but may include religion and the absence of full-time creation scientists in the United States.

The KACR has achieved a lot through its seminars and lectures in the past. It publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and the book. Among these is a textbook on the natural sciences with an evolutionary perspective that attracted the attention of college communities. In 1991, a professor together with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.
On August 6-7 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. It was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from abroad including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of several thousand. KACR and its members have been giving lectures on creation science in major seminaries as well. KACR is planning to create a Creation Science Education Center.
